Financial Aid
Students who are US citizens or permanent residents can go to the Tuition Page for information on applying for financial aid.
International students will find information on available financial aid on the International Students guide. You may review Cooley’s budget and cost of attendance on our website here.
The Financial Aid Office begins processing loans about six weeks prior to the start of your enrollment term. You will receive updates and information from the Financial Aid Office prior to your enrollment about the next steps to your application process via email and postal mail.
If you qualify for financial aid using federal loans, those funds will not be available to you until the third week of the term so please plan accordingly. Visit our financial aid page for complete steps for receiving federal financial aid. Contact ess@cooley.edu with questions about financial aid.
Request Your Undergraduate Transcripts
If your Credential Assembly Service (CAS) report from LSAC did not show that your bachelor's degree has been posted, you must send an updated transcript that posts your degree to LSAC. Once your degree has been posted, submit a new transcript that includes your graduation date and bachelor’s degree conferral date to LSAC so that a new CAS report can be generated. If your degree will not be awarded before classes start, please contact the Admissions Office immediately to review your options.
Register for Orientation
Orientation is mandatory for all students. Go to Cooley Connect to register and see the required reading materials. You will also find the specific dates and times, as well as a detailed schedule about a month prior to the start of your enrollment term. At orientation you have the opportunity to connect with classmates, meet current students and professors, and learn the necessary information to make your transition from undergrad to law school seamless.
Registration
You do not register for classes in your first term. Your first-year courses will be assigned to you by the Registrar's Office based on the schedule you’ve selected on your Intent to Enroll form. Your course schedule will be available approximately one month before classes start. After reviewing your schedule on the Cooley Connect portal, you can purchase your books, as well as find your first-week assignments.
Housing
Cooley does not offer on-campus housing, but all campus locations afford students a variety of housing options from which to choose; ranging from traditional apartment style living to lofts/flats and from 2-3 bedroom homes to condominiums. Students also benefit from the fact that each campus is located in or near some of the most affordable metropolitan housing markets in the nation.
Student Life
With more than 25 student organizations across the Lansing and Tampa campuses, there are many ways in which you can get involved - both in and outside of your classes. Getting involved allows you to not only meet new people and network, but also allows you to practice and learn skills that you will continue using as you move into your professional career. Visit Connect or our website to learn more.
Computers & Technology
Cooley Law School requires all our students to have access to a laptop computer. This ensures that you have access to your Cooley email, Cooley Connect, Canvas, and other important resources. Please comply with the system specifications to ensure that you have access to our exam software, Exam4, and video conferencing system, Webex.
An incoming student may request a budget review of their financial aid package for a loan increase for a recently purchased computer. Please contact your campus Associate Director of Enrollment & Student Services.
Curriculum
Our curriculum is designed to challenge, inspire, and prepare students. Every Cooley student must complete 90 credit hours, including 47 credit hours of required substantive courses, plus 53 credit hours of elective courses to stress the fundamentals of law and practice. Our rigorous program requires actual practice experience before graduation. Learn about our classes here.
Faculty
Cooley has one of the most experienced faculties in the nation. Cooley professors teach three terms a year, which adds up to a faculty with more teaching experience than almost any other law school in the country. And, unlike most other law schools, Cooley’s faculty members bring to the classroom many years of experience as practicing lawyers. View our faculty directory.
Bar Preparation
It's never too early to start thinking about the bar exam. Cooley is in partnership with Barbri, the largest bar prep company in the nation, which allows our students to receive their bar preparation program for no cost. Cooley offers a 3-credit elective to jump start studying for the bar examination and our Academic Resource Center (ARC) hosts essay writing workshops and programs.
Jurisdictional Requirements
In addition to a bar examination, there are character, fitness, and other qualifications for admission to the bar in every U.S. jurisdiction. Applicants are encouraged to determine the requirements for any jurisdiction in which they intend to seek admission by contacting the jurisdiction. Addresses for all relevant agencies are available through the National Conference of Bar Examiners.
